All the teaching staff shall observe the following code of conduct:
- Every employee shall, at all times, maintain absolute integrity and devotion to duty and abstain from any activity that is unbecoming of an employee of an educational institution.
- Every employee shall abide by and comply with the rules and regulations of the Institution and all orders and directions of his/her superior authorities, under whose superintendence or control, he/she is placed.
- Every employee shall extend utmost courtesy and attention to all persons with whom he/she is to deal with in the course of his/her duties.
- Every employee shall endeavour to promote the interest of the Institution and shall not act in any manner prejudicial thereto.
- No employee shall engage in any political activity within the premises of the Institution.
- No employee shall engage directly or indirectly in any trade or business or undertake any other employment. For undertaking honorary work of a social and charitable nature or work of a literary, artistic or scientific character the employee shall obtain prior permission of the authority.
- An employee of the College shall strictly abstain from intoxicating drink or drug while in the campus. No teacher shall indulge in smoking or consumption of tobacco in any form or betel nut products in the College campus.
- Obligation to maintain secrecy: Every employee shall maintain the strictest secrecy regarding confidential matters concerning the institution and shall not divulge, directly or indirectly, any information of confidential nature either to a member of the public or of the College’s staff, unless compelled to do so by a judicial or other authority or unless instructed to do so by a superior officer in the discharge of his duties.
- An employee of the College shall not, without the prior permission of the Principal, engage in any trade or business or adventure by himself or through any member of his family, undertake, accept, engage, solicit or seek any outside employment or office while on duty or on leave, whether stipendiary or honorary.
- No employee of the College shall enter into any partnership, accept any fees, endowment or commission whatsoever from any part other than the College, except with the prior permission of the Principal.
- Acceptance of gifts: An employee shall not solicit or accept any gift from a student of the College or from any subordinate employee, provided that such gifts, grants and donations shall be received by an employee in the official discharge of his duties for the College.
- Sexual abuse of minors/students elicits dismissal of the teacher without any prior notice.
The administrative staff / Non-teaching staff of the college should be at service to assist in all the affairs/activities of the college excluding teaching. The Administrative/Non-teaching staff should;
- Conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism and integrity, maintaining honesty and ethical behavior in all interactions and responsibilities.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student and staff records, college documents, and sensitive information. Unauthorized sharing of information is strictly prohibited.
- Follow all college policies, procedures, and guidelines in ongoing professional development.
- Treat all students, faculty, colleagues, and visitors with respect, courtesy, and consideration. Promote a positive and inclusive environment.
- Adhere to scheduled work hours, attend all required meetings, and fulfill job responsibilities consistently and punctually.
- Develop cooperative and friendly relationships with the faculty members of the institution.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members in all the operations of the college except for teaching.
- Seek opportunities to improve skills, stay updated on changes and ensure compliance with institutional regulations and standards.
- Enhance individual skills to efficiently adapt to latest technologies for the smooth functioning of e-administration.
- Use college resources purposefully and efficiently. Avoid waste and ensure that all equipment and materials are in good condition and maintained at regular intervals.
Creating a code of conduct for the principal of a B.Ed. college ensures the institution maintains high standards of professionalism, ethics, and leadership. The prime concern of the Principal is to frame the policies and execute the vision and mission of the college. The principal must also ensure that the directions issued by the affiliating University, National Council of Teacher Education, State Directorate of Higher Education, and UGC are strictly complied with. The code of conduct for the principal is as given below.
The Principal should:
- Uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical behaviour in all professional activities.
- Conduct himself/herself with fairness, honesty, and transparency.
- Possess effective leadership that promotes the college’s mission and vision, inspiring faculty, staff, and students to achieve excellence in education.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality teacher education programs, continually striving for academic excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
- Be adaptable and ready for innovations that catalyse the progress of the college.
- Monitor financial matters efficiently and plan the activities for efficient use of the resources.
- Respect the dignity of all the members of teaching and non-teaching staff. Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity, ensuring that all members of the college community are treated with dignity and equity.
- Create healthy work-culture, by providing motivation, inspiration, and the required support system to all the students & teachers of the institution.
- Encourage collaboration and teamwork among faculty, staff, and students, fostering a spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility.
- Promote continuous professional development for faculty and staff, encouraging ongoing learning and the adoption of best practices in teacher education.
- Form various college-level committees/ cells to achieve the goal of the multifaceted development of the students.
- Demonstrate professional ethics and maintain open, honest, and transparent communication with all stakeholders.
- Prioritize the needs and well-being of students, creating a supportive and nurturing environment that facilitates their academic and personal growth.
- Promote and participate in co-curricular, extra-curricular, and extension activities keeping the interests of students in mind.
- Take responsibility for decisions and actions, being accountable to the governing body, faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
- Actively engage with the local community, building partnerships and relationships that enhance the college’s reputation and contribute to the broader educational landscape.
The Governing Body of the College, constituted as per rules and regulations of the Nagaland University (affiliating university), and Government of Nagaland, is required to fulfil the mission and objectives of the College. According to the state government, it is mandatory for an educational institution to follow strict compliance of its regulations to ensure lawful and transparent functioning. Code of conduct to be abided by all the students, teachers and non-teaching staffs are well informed to them. The code of conduct for the students is mentioned in the handbook. Likewise, for the teachers and administrative staff it is mentioned in the service rules.
