Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur, Nagaland, hosted the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Peer Team on February 13 and 14, 2025, as part of its first accreditation cycle. The visiting Peer Team, comprising Dr. Muthaiah Narayanasamy, Professor & Dean, Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, as Chairperson; Dr. Ram Pal Vadhera, Former Vice Chancellor, ICFAI University Mizoram, Former Pro Vice Chancellor Mizoram (Central) University, as Member Coordinator; and Dr. Kishor Rewatkar, Principal, Vidya Vikas Arts, Commerce and Science College, Samudrapur, Maharashtra, as esteemed Member, consisted of distinguished academicians from reputed institutions.
The purpose of the NAAC visit is to assess the quality of an educational institution’s academic, administrative, and infrastructural standards. It involves evaluating various aspects like teaching, learning, research, student support, governance, and institutional values to ensure that the college meets the standards for accreditation and continuous improvement.
The Peer Team was formally welcomed upon their arrival at the institution. The visit commenced with a presentation by the Principal, Fr. Dr. Jose Joseph and the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. M. Poorani, providing an overview of the institution’s history, achievements, and vision for the future. The team then proceeded with an in-depth discussion on the college’s quality assurance mechanisms and institutional best practices.
The next events involved a structured campus tour, during which the team visited various academic departments and key facilities, including classrooms, the infirmary, the multipurpose hall, staff room, and students’ common areas. Following this, a series of faculty and staff interaction sessions were held to assess the governance structure, faculty development programs, and student engagement initiatives. The team also conducted interactions with students, parents and alumni, gathering valuable insights into student experiences, co-curricular activities, and the effectiveness of placement support services.
At midday, a luncheon meeting was hosted by Rev. Fr. M.P. Thomas, SDB, Vice President of the College’s Governing Body. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Dr. K. Nishena Nekha, Additional Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Kohima; Mr. Vikie Nagi, Chairman and colleagues from Kuda Village; Prof. L. Tongpang Longkumer, SAS, Nagaland University, Medziphema, serving as the University Representative; Prof. Gyanendra Nath Tiwari, Head of the Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University; and Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh, the Governing Body representative from Nagaland University, along with other Governing Body members.
Several attendees delivered speeches, commending the institution for its significant contributions to society. The NAAC team took this opportunity to engage with key stakeholders, parents and alumni in meaningful discussions on institutional governance and future strategic planning. The day concluded with a cultural program, where students showcased the region’s rich heritage and the college’s commitment to holistic education.
On the second day, the visit centred on assessing practice teaching schools and verifying institutional documentation. The Peer Team visited several schools where students undertake their teaching practice, interacting with the school management to gain insights into the teaching-learning environment. In the latter part of the day, a final review session was conducted with Fr. Dr. Jose Joseph, Principal, to validate the findings and discuss recommendations for improvement.
The visit concluded with a formal exit meeting, where the Peer Team shared their observations, highlighting institutional strengths and offering constructive suggestions for further enhancement. In a gesture symbolizing the culmination of their assessment, the Peer Team handed over the finalized report to the Principal, marking the successful completion of the accreditation process
The NAAC Peer Team praised Bosco College of Teacher Education for its dedication to quality teacher education, well-structured pedagogy, and strong infrastructure. The institution was recognized for its committed faculty, supportive student, parent, and alumni networks, as well as its proactive quality enhancement initiatives. The team also offered recommendations for further improvements, particularly in research initiatives and the integration of digital learning.
