Bosco College Pioneers Next-Gen Teaching Skills through Media Workshop

The Students at Bosco College of Teacher Education participated in a ground-breaking two-day workshop on Media and Communication that seamlessly combined traditional short filmmaking techniques with the latest in artificial intelligence technology.

The workshop, titled “Script to Screen,” was conducted on July 24-25 by Fr. Santosh Mundu SDB, Delegate for Social Communication of the Salesian Province of Dimapur, who guided students through an immersive journey from concept development to final short film production.

On the first day, students received comprehensive training in fundamental filmmaking skills, including idea development, script writing, and various camera angles. Following the theoretical foundation, participants were divided into five groups and challenged to transform their creative concepts into complete short films.

“The approach was entirely hands-on,” explained Fr. Santosh Mundu. “Students didn’t just learn about filmmaking—they actually created short films from start to finish.”

The afternoon session saw student groups venture out to various locations for filming, capturing footage that they later edited at home in preparation for the next day’s screening. This real-world application allowed students to experience the complete production process first hand.

The second day began with a screening and evaluation session where all five student-produced short films were presented and critically analyzed. The collaborative critique provided valuable peer learning opportunities and professional feedback.

In a forward-thinking move, the workshop’s second day introduced students to the revolutionary world of Generative AI. Participants learned about prompt engineering—the art of crafting effective commands to AI systems—and explored various AI tools that could enhance their academic and creative work.

A highlight of the AI session was the practical demonstration of generating song lyrics using artificial intelligence and subsequently converting these lyrics into musical compositions. This fusion of technology and creativity captivated students and demonstrated the vast potential of AI in creative fields.

The workshop’s entirely practical methodology ensured maximum engagement and skill retention. Rather than focusing on theoretical knowledge, students gained hands-on experience in both traditional media production and emerging AI technologies.

“This combination of filmmaking and AI represents the future of creative education,” noted one participating student. “We’re learning skills that will be essential in our teaching careers.”

The program concluded with students expressing heartfelt gratitude for the comprehensive learning experience. The positive reception highlighted the relevance of integrating traditional creative skills with modern technological tools in educational settings.

This innovative workshop reflects Bosco College of Teacher Education’s commitment to providing students with cutting-edge skills that bridge traditional teaching methods with emerging technologies, preparing future educators for an increasingly digital classroom environment.
